For the past year in this house, both the kitchen table –top and the dining room table top have peculiar decorations on them: one laptop a piece grace the tables along with “vertical files” (Jim calls it research), and amulets and pictures for inspiration (I call it a mini-altar), along with the usual placemats, flowers in a vase, etc. I can’t remember the last time Jim and I ate on a home-front table, we like to convene on the couch for our meals, and talk, talk, and review a special topic: Our respective books.

You see, there are 2 authors in the house, gestating 2 different, but equally powerful books, and one of us is about to give birth….and its not the woman of the house,.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Jim’s book, Crisis to Creation: the Power of Choice, will be hitting a loading dock nearby in about a week. It will then be available to buy or order from your local bookstore or Amazon.com in about 3 weeks, or you can immediately download to your iPad, Kindle, Nook, Sony e-reader and other electronic readers directly from a site called Smashwords. I’ll update you all when this comes to pass, and he is holding his new baby in his hands.

an important question

In examining huge options for the future of my career, I am asking myself: Is this on my path, is it a detour or is it a distraction? Path = go for it! Detour = might have to bide my time/do something else for awhile. Distraction = do not enter! Frazzled meandering ahead!

Case in point: I have just completed an incredible book, which I will share with the world very soon. The process has been easy, in integrity with who I am, and completely guided by Spirit. Yet temptations to stray off this lovely path have been too numerous to count: trying to get it published via a contest, trying to get it published via other means not in my integrity, etc. etc., trying trying…

So I am asking this question a lot lately: Path, detour or distraction? And I am receiving the best possible answers!

This is longish, so pour yourself a cuppa and settle in for a spell when you have a chance…

Solstice is upon us, and here in the Northwest corner of the US, the daylight ends at 4:19 PM, and I am noticing how many people here are struggling with…well, so much: No job, health challenges, the loss of a loved one, and the constant struggle to stay in the light when the darkness descends so early. For my part, this has been a pivotal year in so many ways; with a recommitment to my work and purpose bringing some key travels and outreach, and the completion of husband Jim’s book Creating From Crisis, ready to publish (yay!). Yet as well we were dealing with health challenges in our family, the loss of loved ones, and then there’s this darkness factor.

In the midst of this packed year, has come this: This has been the year of what I am terming The Downloads: lovely messages coming through me from an unknown but kind and compassionate Spiritual Source. A few months ago, I’d purchased a tiny digital recorder for my work, and it has been getting a workout: while sitting on the couch with Jim in the mornings, or on our deck in the Summer, or in a café in the various places we’ve visited this last year, the downloads come through with messages of truth and healing for the aching heart of humanity.

My intention is to place a collection of the transcribed downloads in a book, and have it ready for early 2010 publication. I will keep you posted, of course. Meanwhile, I’ve had my usual spate of doubts about the whole process (recall how there are other books I’ve been writing, and how they are not yet in print? Long story….)—including the persistent doubt of anyone giving a hoot about this stuff.

And then came the Force of Love download, which is enclosed below the following story, and everything changed after that: the doubts and fears just vanished. To top it off, yesterday brought a whole new level of celebrating how loved we are by a kindly Universe (aka God), and so I leave you with this Love story, an excerpt of the Force of Love Download, and this wish: That you understand, deeply and thoroughly how loved you are.

u r love

Yesterday, I woke up in a sour mood, having had a rough night of no sleep again…too much on my mind as per usual. Determined to turn this crankiness around, I decided to forgo my household and business chores and take myself out to coffee at a local food coop with an attached cozy and healthy café. I brought with me a recent transcribed “download” from a kindly Higher Power—I thought it might inspire me to re-read and edit it while I had my coffee hour.

On the way to the table ,I had offered kind words and a generous tip to the barista, encouraging words and a muffin to a 20 something year old who seemed lonely and hungry…the kind of stuff I do all the time without even thinking about it. I settled down with my coffee and goody, and with transcript in front of me, was very quickly in tears as I read the beautiful transcription entitled “The Force of Love”. In particular this passage moved me: …love is a force that exists in a state of forever. I felt the warm embrace of a Higher Power letting me know how impossible it was to not be loved.

I eventually ventured from the cozy space of my love-filled kaffee klatch to shop for groceries and a few Christmas gifts at the Co-op. After yet more sweet conversations with merchants and other shoppers, I finally made my way to the check out, beaming from ear to ear because of the lovely morning. And then I swiped my debit card to pay for the mound of items and … “Um, it states ‘access denied’ here,” said the kindly clerk. I looked at my groceries tucked into the shopping cart, and then to the lengthening line of co-op shoppers. Embarrassed, I said, “but I checked my bank statement this morning, and I had plenty of money in my balance…can you try again?” He nodded and tried again, with the same result. He called over the manager, who very sweetly said something about debit machines acting up this time of year, tried again, and then said : “Perhaps you need to contact your bank. I’ll put your groceries next to my office while you get this sorted out.”

O.k.. Gone were the warm fuzzy feelings. Vanished was my connection with a friendly Higher Power. Instead, panic overcame me: Did someone steal our money? Did I do something wrong? I drove the short drive to the local branch of our bank, cursing some not-so-loving words on the way. After a half hour of discussion with a bank representative, and a phone call to someone in the know, I discovered that our debit card account was indeed “compromised” and had been canceled as of that morning. A new card was issued to arrive sometime after Christmas. I withdrew some cash to pay for my purchases, and drove back to the co-op.

“What was THAT all about? “ I asked myself as I pushed the shopping cart toward my car. “And after such a loving morning!” And then the answer came: The Universe was indeed sending me a demonstration of Love: our account was protected, and not stolen from! I smiled and murmured a thankful prayer, and ended it with this: “Thank you for loving me so much. “ My cell phone beeped; a text message had arrived. I am not a texter, so I knew it was probably one of my kids as I flipped open the phone to this message from an unknown-to-me phone number: “u r love”.

I stared at the message, grinning at the perfect timing. But who was it from? I replied with a text of my own: “Thanks. Who are you?” I was almost certain the message “I am love 2” would come back, but instead a woman I had only met once, and who I only knew through a business networking site, had sent this message. Perhaps this was her text message holiday greeting to everyone she had the phone number for? I called her back to say how perfect the timing was for this, and told her my morning love story.

She laughed, then paused, and stated: “there’s more to the story on my end…” and proceeded to tell me she had actually texted a friend of hers, but somehow the message came to me instead. Hmmm…

With a re-established cheery heart I dove back to my hometown and to my office to check for phone messages. There was only one message: “Reverend Macartney you won’t remember me but you really helped me a couple of months ago…” the young teenage boy’s voice went on to say that I had reached out to him while shopping at the Co-op, seeing that he was in an emotional mess. “you told me there was no replacement for me in the world, and to remember how special I was. Then you handed me your card, and well….I called to say thank you. You didn’t know mom had just died, and I was thinking of dying, and then you said what you said. Thank you for saving my life.” It was true, I did not remember the encounter—as I say, this sort of thing happens all the time. I once again tearfully offered a thankful prayer, and got into the car to drive home. A few seconds into the drive the CD player turned itself on. I kid you not. Ziggy Marley was my recent favorite c.d., his cheerful reggae renditions breaking thought the winter gloom. His voice rang out the end of a song, thusly: “Love is my religion. All you need is love.” And then the c.d. shut off.

Look for your miracles of love, and if you can’t find any right now….make ‘em happen.

…love is a force. People on your wonderful planet see love as a tender affection or as an addiction, or a something to be longed for, and yet love is a dominant force in this universe, as it is so prevalent anywhere you might look.

Love is a force of consciousness; love is a force that exists in a state of forever. We speak not of the categories of love that humanity has placed around it, as if love could be cordoned off. Instead we speak more of the force of love that is all acceptance, all allowing, in all ways. For without love, nothing – absolutely nothing – would exist. You would not exist. This voice would not exist, neither would this world exist. Whether we speak of the parts of the world where darkness descends, or the parts of the world that are lit up… whether we speak of the conscious awareness of people who are waking up to their true glorious selves, or the vast sleepy ones that cover and blanket the earth – all are loved, and all are a part of Creation’s love force.

Love exists—it neither takes away, nor gives—it just is. It was a love force that brought to humanity the gift of free will, for this particular planet is a free will planet. There was an allowance of all sorts of plays, dramas, comedies, and activities, to take place on this planet. This was a planet to be left alone to its own devices so to speak. Once formed from the nothing, and once informed by many, many different sources of information from all over the universe, planet earth has basically been left to its own devices. And so, too, has humanity been left to its own devices.

Humanity was formed out of love, and then allowed the free reign to go anywhere humanity wished to go, as far as a species is concerned. Free will was given and received by humanity as a gift–although at times humanity sees this as a curse. Yet this is indeed the will of the Great Creation.—and we say this with a capital “G” and “C”—to allow humanity to be creators as well. In essence< you as creators are allowed to destroy, to create, to love, to unite, to break apart – all would be allowed on this planet. And all has been allowed on this planet. Can you see this? We’re sure that you can. And it is the force of love that has allowed this.

Love stayed the hand of other forces in the universe who wished to take a bit more of a controlled approach to an evolving planet. Love was the one that said “No. Let them evolve on their own. Let’s see what happens here. Let’s see if they can come back to the lap of God, again, via their own volition.” And what, exactly, is that lap of God? It is the lap of Creation, where all, all sparks of life come into manifest form. It is rather a daunting task to explain this task to humanity at this time, since humanity cannot encompass it, although humanity has tried to, in its many religious and spiritual forms. But let’s suffice it to say, that the lap of God was also created by love—a love for all, with no judgment whatsoever for any of it.

To love’s force and reckoning, there is no such thing as evil, except perhaps for the backwards spelling of the word “live”. To Love’s eyes, evil is a living force on this planet of choice, and it exists because it was allowed to express. It was allowed to express as a force that wished to express separately from all other forces in the form of a destructive, malevolent energy. Evil has been allowed to exist on the planet, and yet, there is no overall judgment of this particular malevolent, destructive energy. Love rather welcomes all energies to this particular planet.

And yet because of the hue and cry of the human spirit, there will be a shift quite soon on this planet. The human spirit has tired of this free expression of the more malevolent forces mingled with the more benevolent forces. And so humanity has asked for a reprieve, if you will. And the reprieve is what you are creating as we speak. As you move towards the date of 2012 of your Roman years, you will see that the ending of a certain perspective of life will be upon you. The perspective shift will not happen all at once of course—it will happen gradually, over time. But what will happen is that wellbeing and love will take predominance over the more destructive forces of anger, spite, evil, and fear.

This is not to sound Pollyanna to you. This is not to sound like so much idealistic fluff. This is a statement of fact. People have tired, and have been tired of the forces, or the energies of hatred and disappointment and anger for so long, that one had to construct a particular date, to be a marker of how ready humanity was to not entertain drama anymore. As the old African-American spiritual sang in years past, you, as humanity “ain’t gonna study war no more.”

Yet, there will still be warriors. There will still be tribal lands where there will be skirmishes. There will still be strife, and there will still be people, who wish to destroy.

For now however, there is the force of love, ever, ever flowing, through the veins of humanity, through the veins of this world. We call this The Great Allowance. Love is a force of consciousness, for it brings not only the creations into a form that is sustainable, for more than an instant, it also allows for forms to come and to go as they will.

On this planet, many forms have come, and gone. Human life forms have been here for a long time, but really, only a brief blip of time as far as the Earth’s form is concerned, and definitely as far as the Universal form is concerned. Yet love does allow for a life form to have a life! This is its characteristic of allowing all to exist in a time frame of its choosing.

So a bee has a lifespan of however many months a bee has a lifespan, and a human has a lifespan of how many months, days, years, decades it has a lifespan. The lifespan of a mountain, the lifespan of a flame, in a candle. All spanning, and flowing, with the energy of love. Love creates, and destroys all at the same time. Love is the ultimate in allowance.

discernment on the spirit path

Note: I was originally prompted to write the following essay because of an event I had witnessed involving a so-called shaman convincing an audience of his spiritual prowess and the healing power of an object he was selling. In other words, I witnessed a spiritual and commercial con-artist in action. More recently, in reading about the “sweatlodge” deaths during a “spiritual warriors” training retreat in Sedona, under the auspices of spiritual teacher James Ray, I felt prompted to re-publish this article for your consideration.
I hope the following is useful information for you as you make your way on the Path. My deepest sympathy and compassion to all involved in the tragedy.

Spiritual Discernment: How to choose wisely in challenging times.

It’s clear: We are all involved in times when everything is changing : We communicate in ways never before available to us: We blog, instant message, “Twitter”, text, YouTube and chat. In our medical and healing sciences, new discoveries are made every day, and the array of choices are astounding. And then we have our spiritual paths: There are spiritual teachers, books, communities and events that can inform, serve, and inspire us. As well though, there are people and groups who use fear tactics to take advantage of us. Among all the options to learn, grow and to heal, how do we choose wisely?

Of course I do not have all the answers to this, but I will share a few considerations as we all proceed to create our individual and collective future:

1. Check in with yourself:

a. Note how you feel: If you’re given options in healing modalities or teachings or investments of time, energy, or money, check out your gut. I mean this most literally: What is it you are feeling in your tummy area, otherwise known as your solar plexus chakra? Do you have a sinking feeling? Did your stomach lurch or was there a sensation of a “sock to the gut”? If there is even a minor reaction, pay attention and ask yourself “Why? What is going on?” There is a reason to pay attention to your gut: In the realm of human events, wiser men and women have paid attention to their initial instinct. I understand how this may sound simplistic—and it is. But I cannot count the number of times when my initial “hit” was the correct one.

b. Note the beliefs you are operating from. Sometimes our beliefs assist us in our choices, often times they fall short. A healthy dose of belief-checking once in awhile allows us to re-consider our options from a place of neutrality and wisdom, rather than stale or no longer useful beliefs.

c. Trust yourself: Too often I’ve made choices that have gone sideways because I did not trust myself to make the correct choice for me. My choice may not be your choice. My choice may not be status quo. Others might even deride me for my choices. Yet in the realm of a free-will planet, all our choices ultimately come down to this: Who do you trust?

2. Check out the source: From whom is this opportunity/ choice/healing coming from? If it’s an individual person acting as a teacher or healer or source of choices, here are some considerations:

a. Are the options coming from a reliable source? Obviously, if this is a known entity to yourself or others you trust, then you can proceed with some confidence. Yet I beg you: please, please, check in with your gut anyway.

b. Does the person use his/her power to empower or to have power over? This is a subjective call: Some assertive people have our best interests in mind, but even so, the need to have power over others is often a dangerous need. Dictators, cult leaders and false practitioners offer up what might seem as solid solutions to your current situation. We like “take-charge” people. But is the” take-charge” attitude turning into a “takeover”?

c. Beware of judgmental statements. I have known so-called healers tell their clients: “If you don’t do what I tell you to do, you are going to die/get sick/regret.” This has serious consequences: the power of suggestion can never be underestimated. A true teacher /healer/ advisor gives you information, and then empowers you to come to your own conclusions, your own choices. You do not have to be intimidated to make a choice.

d. Listen to their words, and also listen to what is NOT being said. If the words do not make sense, or there seems to be missing information, ask questions. If their answers are not satisfactory to you, walk away and re-consider.

3. Check out the teachings or choices as you put them into practice. How do you feel? Enlivened? Less fearful? Healthier, or at least getting well? In other words, is it working for you? If not, why?

Example: A few years ago, a client of mine came to me for counsel after two years of trying “holistic healing techniques” in order to cure her kidney tumor. By the time she arrived in my office, the tumor had grown to such an extent, it had created a protruding belly on her slender frame. She looked seven months pregnant. As she explained her two year regimen involving a strict diet, Oriental Medicine treatments, as well as seeing a renowned healer, she was understandably discouraged. I asked her what turned out to be an important question: “Is what you are doing working?”

At first she was stunned by the question and murmured something about wanting to be holistic and so forth. I gently suggested she answer the question with a simple yes or no. After she admitted, “No, it isn’t working”, we discussed other options, including surgery. The realization was this: If one is wanting to treat a situation “holistically” then one will examine ALL options available. The word holistic means just what it suggests: Considering the whole of human experience: mind, body, emotions, spirit. She eventually chose surgery as a treatment option, and we made sure steps were taken to view this as a sacred event rather than a last-ditch option. She is now a healthy woman.

Lesson: With whatever you are involved in, occasionally ask “Is it working?”

I wonder how many crises could have been averted if we as individuals or as a culture or as a planetary people had asked that crucial question: “Is it working?”Perhaps it is time to ask that question. Perhaps it is time to re-consider our path. Perhaps it is time to check in with our intuition. Perhaps it is time to re-choose.

You are not fallen angels; you are specially created angels fully adaptable to life on a living planet. Today, in this phase of your spiritual evolution, you are only partially conscious of your potential.
Seeing ourselves as small, silly, insignificant, and unable to do anything of worth, is the greatest lie humanity has ever received and locked into our consciousness. We’ve been caught up in this scenario for so long that we are completely unaware of the lie of this being real. Our predominant waking consciousness has been this limited and stunted perception. Meanwhile, in our dreams and visions and imagination, we have always known that we are so much more.

The summer heat is on, with rare 90 and 100 degree Fahrenheit days slowing down the usually caffeinated & active people here. solar eclipse recommendations, and beyond…

Hello there,

A powerful solar eclipse will be happening today, Tuesday, at around 6:30 to about 7:30 PM Pacific daylight savings time.

Recommendations for a solar eclipse/powerful new moon:

Pray…for peace, love and gratitude to blanket the earth. Shanghai, China will view the total eclipse, so there is one good focus place for prayer: it’s a city of 12 million people.

Set your intentions for the year: good time to set intentions for the month is during the new moon…the solar eclipse makes it much more powerful a time to set intentions/visions. Write down your intentions’ /visions for yourself for the year. Light a candle or a fire (safely please) and state your intentions with a prayer.

Jim and I will be on Semiahmoo Spit today, special place on the Canadian/US border , starting around 6:00, to do some good prayer work. We like the sacredness of the place. If you’re interested in joining us, do so wherever you are, or join us on the beach if you’re nearby.

I am sitting in my bright little LaConner office, reflecting on a journey just taken to officiate the memorial service of dear friend who lived 11 hours away in Ashland, Oregon, near the California border. The trip was a magical one, full to the brim with synchronicities, car breakdowns, fairy gardens, meditative moments, tears, laughter, re-uniting with old friends, and saying a final good-bye to an old friend. I feel changed by this few day trip: something has softened in me, opened up to the fragility in life (once again), and opened up to these repeating thoughts in my head: “Life is brief. Do not hesitate to follow your dreams. Be open to miracles. Be available to others.”

“Be available to others”—it’s this statement that has been tugging at me the most. Sitting in my office, and taking a bit of a breather from what is turning out to be a rather busy Summer, I have a sense that somehow my “Availability Light” must be on. Past clients who I’ve not seen in a decade or more are calling; so are new people from all over the world. Most of them have come to my office door to ask for assistance because their lives are turned upside down, changes are huge, and they want to move forward with some sense of a path. So, my calendar is packed with the People of the Change: our time has come folks, to do whatever it is we do best. Show up, the world needs us more than ever.

Now, counter-intuitive to my rather full calendar, I was advised by my own guidance to make myself even more available, and so I am offering this one Summer only possibility for you to take advantage of:

I have spent the last few days with a dying friend and her family, and finally had to say goodbye, because my task, and the path that led me there, was finished.

To say it was hard to leave is an understatement. There seemed to be so much left to do. Yet I have a tendency to hang on and on to my “assignments”, long after the signs suggest I move on. And so it is nice to report, with you as my witness, that I saw the signs, checked in with my Self, and left her and her family to the rest of their journey.

She was honored and heard and comforted. I learned a lot, and especially about some of our primary human distractions from our life-paths:

Anger and bitterness about events in the past is hugely distracting from our peace of mind. So is resentment.

Everything is flowing and changing…holding on to anything can be a distraction. My friend still held out the hope of a “miracle” cure. She held onto this hope until the last moment of our visit, after we had discussed the fact that she is dying and she can heal whatever needs to be healed, and still die. I gently pointed out that she is a miracle and has nothing to prove…and I got to observe in myself how many times I have been trying to prove myself–what a distraction! GO with the flow, people.

While there, she posed serious questions about honoring her contract on the planet: “Did I do so?” and whether it was time to release this particular body, riddled with a cancer-comeback from an original lung cancer remission: “ I desire to be a miracle. Can I cure this?”

These were tough questions to answer because her spirit was so vibrant, so huge, it seemed that her body should have followed suit with a vibrancy of its own. But here is how I answered her questions….
“My darling friend, you have honored your contract as a spiritual teacher with grace, humor and wisdom. You taught and blessed people all the time, from the waitresses at the cafés you loved to visit , blessing their hearts and graciously saying thank you for the smallest of service, ot the nurses and staff on the oncology ward, to the chorales you sang in, where the people would come to you for advice and loving presence.” And “No, this body has cancer in the brain , your major organs and your lungs, and will no longer support the enormous spirit you are. It’s time to release to a new experience, and your angelic presence.”

After our visit, her body rapidly degraded as she relaxed into the releasing of a lovely human, and into the birthing of an angel. At around 1:00 this morning, I woke up to her beautiful voice , singing, “Happy trails to you, until we meet again…” She was making her rounds…
